چکیده

This paper is devoted to the construction of a complete database which is intended to improve the implementation and the evaluation of automated facial reconstruction. This growing database is currently composed of 85 head CT-scans of healthy European subjects aged 20-65 years old. It also includes the triangulated surfaces of the face and the skull of each subject. These surfaces are extracted from CT-scans using an original combination of image-processing techniques which are presented in the paper. Besides, a set of 39 referenced anatomical skull landmarks were located manually on each scan. Using the geometrical information provided by triangulated surfaces, we compute facial soft-tissue depths at each known landmark positions. We report the average thickness values at each landmark and compare our measures to those of the traditional charts of [J. Rhine, C.E. Moore, Facial Tissue Thickness of American Caucasoïds, Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1982] and of several recent in vivo studies [M.H. Manhein, G.A. Listi, R.E. Barsley, et al., In vivo facial tissue depth measurements for children and adults, Journal of Forensic Sciences 45 (1) (2000) 48-60; S. De Greef, P. Claes, D. Vandermeulen, et al., Large-scale in vivo Caucasian facial soft tissue thickness database for craniofacial reconstruction, Forensic Science International 159S (2006) S126-S146; R. Helmer, Schödelidentifizierung durch elektronische bildmischung, Kriminalistik Verlag GmbH, Heidelberg, 1984].

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the geometry of the distal femur and the proximal tibia in the osteoarthritic knee using 3D reconstructive CT scan imaging. Methods: 449 patients with knee osteoarthritis were treated surgically in our center with patient-specific technology total knee arthroplasty. Preoperatively, all the patients underwent a CT scan according to a standard ...

Design, Construction and Evaluation of an Anthropomorphic Head Phantom for Assessment of Image Distortion in Stereotactic Radiosurgery Planning Systems

Introduction: In recent years, the use of magnetic resonance (MR) images in radiation treatment planning has drawn considerable attention. However, although the extent of a tumor can be determined in great detail on MR images, the geometric accuracy of these images is limited by distortions stemming from the inhomogeneity of the static background magnetic field, the nonlineari...

Thyroid dose and dose reduction method from CT scan of head and neck

Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) consists of 11% of all imaging methods, but accounts for approximately 67% of radiation exposure due to diagnostic cases. More than one-third of all CT scans are done in the head and neck area. The thyroid gland is irradiated during CT head and neck. According to studies, this gland has the highest levels of radiation-induced cancer, and i...

بررسی دقت سی‌تی‌اسکن اسپیرال با بازسازی به روش Multi Planar(MPR) در اندازه‌گیری طول کلیه در بیمارستان شهید هاشمی‌نژاد در سال 1383

Background & Aim: Measuring the length of kidneys is an important issue in diagnosis and treatment of renal diseases. In various diseases, kidneys become larger or smaller than normal. Ultrasonography is a suitable method for measuring renal length because it is accurate, noninvasive, available and with low cost. Nowadays, multislice spiral CT scanners are widely used for evaluation of rena...

Evaluation of polyurethane composite shields effect on reducing the risk of cataract induction at head CT scan

Head computed tomography is a common diagnostic examination, which may cause lenticular opacity and cataracts. Cataract induction is one of the non-stochastic effects of radiation, that happens at threshold dose of 0.5 Gy. Recent studies illustrate that only irradiation to the sensitive (germinative) zone of the lens is a prerequisite to cataract development. Recently, the dose values absorbed ...
